Sections Gusman Premieres: Films from world renowned directors and emerging filmmakers are showcased at the historic Gusman Center for the Performing Arts.

Dramatic Features – World Cinema Competition: Showcases the latest works of first- and second-time filmmakers from around the world.

Dramatic Features - Ibero-American Cinema Competition: Showcases features by first- and second-time filmmakers from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal.

Documentary Features - World & Ibero-American Cinema Competition: Documentary features from around the world. First- and second-time filmmakers encouraged.

International Panorama: Works from the masters and up-and-coming filmmakers from around the world who have created more than two features (World Dramatic Features, Ibero-American Dramatic Features, and Documentary Features).

Touching Florida: Dramatic and Documentary Features from Floridian filmmakers.

Career Achievement Tribute: Annual tribute honors one filmmaker each year.

Big Picture: Films that tackle world issues and the human struggle for life and dignity. Film programs include discussions and panels.

Genres Documentary Films, Fiction, Short Films

Terms of Entry Film submissions must have been completed after September 1, 2009. Can have screened at up to 2 festivals (1 U.S. and 1 international). Must not have been publicly broadcast or exhibited commercially in the U.S prior to the Festival.

Dramatic Features in competition (World & Ibero-American categories):
-Open only to first- and second-time directors
-Must be a 2010 MIFF U.S Premiere (some exceptions granted upon approval)
-70 minutes or longer

Documentary Features in competition:
-First- and second-time directors encouraged
-2010 MIFF U.S Premiere encouraged
-50 minutes or longer

Local Filmmakers:
-One of the following must be from Florida: director, producer, writer, production company, cinematographer, editor, key talent, or location.
-Films will be considered in applicable competition categories as well as Touching Florida.
-Pay early submission fee through to final submission deadline (October 18, 2009).

Short Films:
-Must make at least a Miami Premiere at MIFF 2010
-Under 15 minutes

Subtitles English subtitles necessary

Registration Deadline  Early Submissions (Aug. 1 – Sept. 13): Features + Docs US$ 30, Shorts US$ 20
Final Submissions (Sept. 15 – Oct. 18): Features and Docs US$ 50, Shorts US$ 35

Participants of the Film Industry 300 industry members, including filmmakers and talent scouts

Prizes/Awards $25,000 Knight Grand Jury Prize awarded in each of three competition categories. $2,500 cash prize awarded in each of three competition categories. FIPRESCI Prize awarded in Dramatic Features – World Cinema Competition

Evaluation The Miami International Film Festival uses the unique geographical and cultural position of Miami to be a premiere venue for the exhibition of international and US films, with a special focus on Ibero-American cinema.
