Sophie's World

The big book comes to the big screen.
Looking in her mailbox one morning, forteen-year-old schoolgirl Sophie Amundsen discovers a letter from someone named Alberto Knox. "What is the most important thing in life?", asks Knox. The letter is the beginning of an extraordinary tour through the history of Western philosophy from the trial of Socrates to the Russian Revolution. In series of brilliantly entertaining adventures through time and space, Alberto Knox opens Sophie's mind to the fundamental questions that philosophers have been asking since the dawn of civilisation.

Eric Gustavson was born in 1955 and started his film career in 1974, working his way up from camera assistant to managing his own production company from 1980. In 1986, he made his directorial debut with Blackout, while his second film Herman (1990) won two Amanda awards for best film and screen-play. He served as associate producer on Cross My Heart And Hope To Die which was Norway's entry to the 1994 Academy Awards. His films include: The Telegraphist (1993), Shut Up And Listen (1994), Weekend (1998) and Sophie's World (1999).
